Cloudland Canyon State Park

The Fall season is always a very tricky one for photographers because the window of opportunity is always so narrow and unpredictable. Typically, a maple tree will turn from yellow to red to brown in about two weeks. The most beautiful time to photograph will be when the forest has a mix of green, yellow, orange and red trees. Since every region’s color changes at different times, it’s hard to know when is the best time to go. If you live close to it, then it’s not a problem. If not, it’s all by luck.

A friend found photos of Cloudland Canyon State Park that was posted on the 30th Oct, and they were gorgeous. It was a do or die situation for me and my friends, because the photos could have been taken a week or two earlier, so it may be too late for us to go. Well, what’s there to lose? We took the chance.

Cloudland Canyon State Park is on the north western tip of Georgia, bordering Tennessee and Alabama. There are beautiful tall waterfalls and rapids flowing through the rocky terrain, surrounded by awesome cliffs that forms a valley. The road took us to the best spot for the canyon outlook, and to go to the falls, it’s a 750-step stairs down the canyon, which isn’t bad at all. Tallulah Falls was more than a thousand steps… well, just suck it up and climb the damn thing!

Well, there really isn’t much to say about trips like this, except how lucky we are to have a quiet spot like this so close. I personally have very high appreciation for well maintained and respected sites like this. In Taiwan, natural beauty isn’t respected at all. It doesn’t matter how remote you are, there’s always a road that plows through the terrain that brings nothing but thrash. Here, you can absolutely care about nothing but appreciating what’s around you.
