Okinawa Aquarium – The biggest seafood depot in the world!

Okinawa Aquarium is almost the only reason why people come to Okinawa. Honestly, having been to Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, I am not exactly overly impressed by it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great, but it’s rather similar with the one in Atlanta which claims to have a water tank bigger than the one in Okinawa.

I did a quick wiki search of Okinawa aquarium and found this amusing trend. As I searched Okinawa Aquarium, the description said it being the world’s third largest tank, surpassed by Georgia Aquarium. Then when I visited the wiki page of Georgia Aquarium, it said its tank size is surprised by yet another larger and newer tank in Singapore. Then when I visited the wiki page for Singapore’s aquarium, it is mentioned that its tank size is surpassed by yet a larger one in China! I guess size does matter!

However it is always entertaining to see oceanic creatures gracefully fly over like birds in the sky, as well as the reactions of the children as they say “Konijiwa” when the whale shark swims by. It is however very sad to realize that no matter how big of a tank we build to house these creatures, it’s never enough, especially when their real home is just a wall away. Humans get satisfaction by boasting about what a marvel it is to build such large water tanks. Since I visited the Georgia Aquarium, I’ve always thought what if we put ourselves in a box and get dropped into the bottom of the ocean floor instead for the sea creatures’ amusement?
