Grasshopper/locust whatever you call them!

I found this guy on the road. It's green, looks like a grasshopper. But it's too big to be one, and it has hard shells. So I was thinking perhaps it's a locust instead. I checked Google image search for both but can't find a distinctive difference to tell them apart. Then I was told that when they are not in a big swarm eating everything in their path, they are called grasshoppers. The super hungry ones are then called locust. Interesting.
